Trip Activities For The Chronically Bored.

I have realized that since I wrote this blog I have only blogged about recreational travel and for a lot of you out there traveling isn’t done for enjoyment but for work.

There are many of you that travel for work, for meetings, photo-shoots, sales, relocating, and for some even just searching for good job can bring you places.

So for those of you that the travel isn’t always fun I have come up with ways to make it more enjoyable.

Starting with vlogging yes video logging can be very enjoyable for anyone from the beginner with a webcam and to the professional film maker. This activity is an easy way to make memories, and for some the editing is just as fun.

Tips: when buying a camera take your time, look for the camera that fits what you need, because the last thing you want to do is buy an expensive camera that doesn’t do what you want, also remember to shop in your “skill level” don’t buy something you won’t be able to use right.

Requirements: video camera/webcam, and your imagination.

Not to keen on videos?
Well I have an alternative that works with all ages. Although I myself am not a huge fan of keeping up with all of this (I am a guy…) Scrapbooks can make yo memories last plus it’s a great activity to do on a trip.

Tips: Bring a few clear tubs and some tape and a sharpie. Use the boxes to keep pictures or notes in and write dates and places on the tape for quick, cheap labels.

2: Don’t overload on albums, trust me it will be hard to fill up even one normal sized album on a business trip.

3: Try keeping your picture “stock” low, because if your forced to pick your favorite memories it will make the whole scrapbook more meaningfull.

4: If you take your family with you try taking turns picking out pictures or even some of the places to take pictures.  When your kids get older and ask you why you guys took a picture next to a giant statue of a duck or a smashed in the smallest part of your grandparents house it will have a good story behind it.

Requirements:  A photo album, an imagination,  camera and glue.

If your a loner (which is okay) you might not want something that takes so much effort. So how about this. Take a small, pocket sized, notebook with you and when you see something you think is interesting or something you want to remember jot down a simple note, then later take a picture of it and post it to your favorite corkboard,  or maybe just keep it for later…

Tip: don’t accidentally wash your notebook…

Requirements: Notebook, pen/pencil.
Optional: Sketch pad if you’re good at art (or aren’t but like drawing).

Ask a nomad app

So I found a great personal travel helper the other day on iTunes FOR FREE!

Sorry over excited there… anything that makes my travels more personal makes me happy plus add the free part and this app is awesome.

This app is like a question forum about cities and places on an app.
You can ask any question and have it answered by a fellow traveler, or anyone that just loves there city.

Featuring a fluid and professional interface with hardly any bugs this app can be quite usefull. Althought it could have a few more features like Add a City or quick tips it is still good and it’s still in its “raw” stages as its still new.

Music of the week 10/26/2011

M83- Midnight city

M83 is a french shoe gazing/indie band formed in 2001 that is great at making quite vocals seem loud.

With a mixture of electronic-ish tones and a classy guitar vocal combo this song is very unique and fascinating like no other, this song brings this band to a new hight by my viewpoint.

Making memories.

“Without new experiences, something inside of us sleeps. The sleeper must awaken.” — Frank Herbert

As a kid I was not fond of travel because of well long traveling with family, friends. The days leading up to our trips/vacations of mine were never happy. That is until I went to see my brother at college not long after I got my license.

I realized then that it was not my family, destination, or means of travel that made any trip so wonderful. What made all of my family trips ( and now all ) so life changing was the memories, My state of mind.

See I find that when trips are unique they make me more well…curious or inspiring. I know that different things seem “unique” to different people. But I have found online some sites make every trip unique…

For those of you that are into the mindset of “global connections” the site www.couchsurfing.com  is really amazing. Not only is the concept great but the way the company has made it safe and easy is breathtaking.

And even if you don’t like that sort of thing the idea of travel is just fun. And I would like to say the reason for this site is to show how you can make every trip enjoyable, creative, and some even insightful.

Amarillo Tx my family home

Ah Amarillo…my place of birth, my place of growth.

What to say about Amarillo? Ah how about this. Amarillo Is a business city.
By that I mean big companies like Bell helicopter, Pantex, and others.

As far as a city for “Dreamers” I say it’s not much.

But I grew up very close to what I think is the most interesting slice of Amarillo Tx… Sixth street ( or to you route 66. )

I know what you are thinking. Bikers, loud motorcycles, rinky dinky town…
Well yes and no. At some times of the year that is all sixth street harbors.
But in other seasons it’s quite fun.

And growing up in Amarillo you learn to be creative with what you have.
Because one okay mall and a few movie theaters isn’t much, and kids tend to play at parks and other places like such pretty often, which is what makes me glad I grew up here.

It made me more creative in how I thought about places, it also made me see them differently.

See I want to write about Sixth street.
It has some very interesting places such as the Nest

The Nest ( and the The Two Loons ) is a creative artists haven. The two stores are filled with amazing products made by a local artist out of recycled pieces of furniture and items.

And for the Coffee lovers the 806 is just about a hundred foot walk down the street.

The 806 is a great coffee shop with local bands every week in the summer and also showcases art by various artists.

On this historic street there is also Bomb City Recordings, Game quest, And tons of antique shops.

But even if you don’t like any of that you are sure to like the restaurants. From Barnaby’s Beanery to Ribs N More you are sure to get at least some food you will love. Like Cowboy Gelato.

Now this is where I’m going to start my adventures. Since I am only 17 my life is only just about to start as an individual. So I wanna say thanks for reading and I hope you continue.
